In class when
we first began to discuss the project I was beyond nervous. I was unsure how I would
be able to write such a massive thing and see it come together well. Also with
all of my other classes it seemed unreasonable. However after it was stated
that we would be doing it in class, and that it’s more about quantity then
quality the assignment seemed to look a bit smaller. If I was aiming for
perfection while I wrote the whole script it never would have been finished.
I really
enjoyed doing this project. I got a lot of experience with writing a script and
it was fun doing an episode of a tv show that I watch. We both had to sit down
and watch episodes to really grasp how our characters talk. There really is a
lot that goes into the creation of a script.
I liked when we
wrote out a paragraph for each part of our stories on the blog. It really
helped when writing the story so I always had a guideline of where I was going
next. The percentage pages really helped with the plot of our story. Also they
showed us how a script should look in the first place. I had no prior knowledge
to how a story truly should come together before this. The least helpful thing
in the workbook was that we didn’t go through everything in it. Looking through
it I noticed that it would’ve potentially helped to steer us in the right
direction.
I learned that I
am too much a perfectionist at times, and cranking things out isn’t easy for
me. But I think together we were able to conquer that and whip out a lot of
pages. Together we noticed how hard it is to write a script. Our final script
was 68 pages. We handled the time not always well in class. However we spent a
lot of time at home working on the script. It was hard to sit down and write
more than five pages because it made your brain hurt after a while. We should’ve
spent the time in class better, but we spent many hours at home which
compensated. We would’ve had more pages, but the Celtx deleted many of them.
The strength of
our script is that it feels real, and brought laughs to our own faces. The humor
was consistent with Adventure Time, and they could’ve been real episodes.
Everything came together well, but the punctuation and some of the intense
descriptions need more work on them. I think Tyler and I are going to be
working on this this summer and sending it in for potential approval to be
episodes.
My favorite
parts of the scripts are how everything came together. I like how characters
were incorporated from different episodes and it all seemed to flow very well.
Also our new character fits with the Adventure Time aura. I would have worked
more on Adventure Time and sent them in. However I wished we did the writing
exercises more. All the words we put together were never really used. And I spent
a long time on the six word memoir and the final project was never seen. I did
enjoy writing the script, but I wish we did other things as well, like we did
in the beginning of the semester. If given more time to do the Adventure Time
script we would’ve worked at the same pace, and then went back to work on it.
But I think we did a good mix of everything. It was a great semester thanks
Mrs. Basko!
